The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced that it will withdraw from the “Arogya” project launched by the Ministry of Health, with effect from today (02).

GMOA Media Spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said the decision to initiate trade union action was taken due to what the association described as the government’s failure to provide a satisfactory response to its concerns and demands.

Dr. Wijesinghe expressed serious reservations regarding the transparency and objectives of the Arogya project. He stated that the GMOA had not been adequately informed about the nature, scope, or purpose of the initiative.

He questioned whether a proper feasibility study had been conducted, under whose approval the project was being implemented, and which authority was responsible for overseeing it.

The GMOA spokesman further said that at a time when the health sector is grappling with multiple pressing challenges, attention was being diverted to areas that do not require urgent intervention, resulting in what he described as duplication of existing work.
