Sri Lanka has officially launched National Anti-Drug Week in line with the nationwide ‘United as One’ operation aimed at eradicating drug abuse across the country.

The National Operations Council announced that the dedicated week will intensify efforts to curb the spread of narcotics while promoting a drug-free society.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has issued a circular outlining two primary objectives: strengthening measures to control drug trafficking and sales, and enhancing rehabilitation support for individuals struggling with addiction.

Authorities stated that the campaign seeks to raise public awareness and encourage meaningful social dialogue on the dangers of drug use. Throughout the week, state institutions, schools, and grassroots organizations are conducting a range of awareness programs with the active involvement of officials from multiple ministries and affiliated agencies.

The initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to safeguarding communities by addressing both prevention and recovery in the fight against drug abuse.
