96th battle of the maroons begins in Colombo

The 96th edition of the annual “Battle of the Maroons” big match between Ananda College and Nalanda College commenced at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.

After winning the toss, Ananda College captain Kithma Vidanapathirana elected to bat first. At the close of play on Day One, Ananda were strongly placed at 325 for 5.

Netula Edirimanna delivered a remarkable performance, remaining unbeaten on 150 runs. His innings now stands as the highest individual score recorded in the history of the Battle of the Maroons.

For Nalanda, captain Osada Pamuditha was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for 60 runs.

The match will continue tomorrow and the following day at the SSC Grounds.
