The Department of Census and Statistics today (27) released the latest figures for the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) and the consumer inflation rate for the Colombo Urban Area for February 2026.

According to the report, the annual consumer inflation rate for the Colombo Urban Area declined to 1.6% in February 2026, down from 2.3% recorded in January 2026.

The year-on-year inflation rate for the Food category dropped sharply to 0.2% in February, compared to 3.3% reported in January 2026.

Meanwhile, the annual inflation rate for the Non-Food category increased to 2.3% in February 2026, up from 1.8% recorded in the previous month.

The latest data indicates a continued easing of overall inflationary pressures in the Colombo Urban Area, mainly driven by a significant slowdown in food price increases, despite a moderate rise in non-food inflation.
