The Baddegama Magistrate's Court has granted permission to the Galle Police Crime Division to detain and question alleged underworld figure Janith Madushanka for a period of seven days.

Madushanka, widely known by the alias “Podi Lassi,” was recently arrested in India and subsequently extradited to Sri Lanka under coordinated law enforcement efforts between the two countries.

Police informed the court that the detention is necessary to conduct extensive questioning regarding several ongoing criminal investigations allegedly linked to organized underworld activities in the southern region. Investigators stated that further inquiries are expected to uncover additional information about suspected associates and related criminal operations.

Authorities emphasized that the suspect was produced before the Baddegama Magistrate following his arrival in the country, after which the court approved the seven-day detention order to facilitate questioning.

The Galle Police Crime Division stated that further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigations.
