He made these remarks while commenting on the extradition of organized criminal and alleged drug trafficker Arumahandi Janith Madhusankha de Silva, alias ‘Podi Lassie’, who was returned to the country today (27).
According to the spokesperson, since 2024, a total of 29 suspects against whom international red notices had been issued were brought back to Sri Lanka through existing state mechanisms. These suspects were returned during 2024, 2025, and 2026.
In addition, 14 individuals — including the suspect extradited today — were repatriated without international police red notices. The spokesperson noted that these returns were made possible through the direct intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in matters related to immigration and emigration offences, with the cooperation and trust of the respective foreign governments.
He further revealed that 89 red notices have been obtained against organized criminals, and authorities are making every effort to bring those suspects back to Sri Lanka during 2026.
