Minister K.D. Lalkantha has reaffirmed the government's commitment to delivering justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks, stating that the ongoing investigations are a direct fulfillment of their electoral mandate.

Addressing the media, the Minister recalled that prioritizing the Easter Sunday probe and ensuring justice for the victims were central promises in their election manifesto. As the current administration, he noted, they are now executing that mandated plan.

The Minister said that the practical work of the investigations has been formally entrusted to the relevant defense and security institutions, particularly the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He assured the public that these agencies have been fully authorized and empowered to carry out their duties. According to Lalkantha, these institutions are currently conducting their operations and moving forward according to their established investigative procedures.

During the press briefing, Minister Lalkantha firmly dismissed speculations from journalists suggesting that the resurgence of the Easter Sunday topic is a calculated political maneuver. When asked if the investigations were being strategically timed to coincide with the upcoming April 21st anniversary or the Provincial Council elections, he rejected both notions. He said that the April 21st date has no operational relevance to the timeline of the ongoing probes, and he expressed confusion over any supposed link to the Provincial Council elections. He reiterated that the actions currently unfolding are simply the result of security forces independently carrying out their assigned duties to uncover the truth.
