Police Media have reported that officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have left for India to escort back underworld figure and alleged drug trafficker “Podi Lasi,” who was arrested in Mumbai.

Podi Lasi, identified as a gang member and narcotics trafficker, was taken into custody in Mumbai, India, on January 16 last year. Following his release on bail, he reportedly traveled to the Colombo area in a luxury vehicle procession. However, no information about his whereabouts had been available since then.

Security forces had earlier expressed suspicions that both “Kudu Salindu” and underworld gang leader “Podi Lasi” had secretly fled the country. Authorities believe the two suspects may have escaped overseas via sea routes.

Further investigations are ongoing as Sri Lankan authorities work to bring the suspect back to the country for legal proceedings.
