Speaking at a special media briefing held today (26), he described the Easter Sunday attacks as a brutal massacre that claimed nearly 300 lives, most of whom had attended Easter Sunday Mass. He noted that victims included individuals from different religions and ethnic communities.
He emphasized that uncovering the truth behind the attacks is essential to ensure that the rule of law is properly upheld in the country. If justice is not served, he warned, it would create a dangerous environment where perpetrators are unafraid to commit crimes and evade accountability.
Father Gamini said that the investigations are being conducted independently by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and should be allowed to proceed without political interference. He cautioned against attempts to politicize the matter or provide varying interpretations regarding arrests, suggesting that such actions could indicate ulterior motives.
He further asserted that any effort to sabotage the investigations would be a grave injustice to those who lost their lives or were left disabled in the attacks. He urged the public to exercise patience and allow the investigative process to continue, expressing confidence that meaningful results would emerge.
