A delegation from the Montana State Partnership Program highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential as a hub for critical minerals during a meeting with Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe today. Led by Mr. James Mooney, Founder of Mooney Group LLC, the team explored ways to invest in and develop the country’s graphite industry while promoting global market access.

The Mooney Group, known for mining projects that support the semiconductor, battery, and defense industries, emphasized its interest in introducing advanced technology and best practices in safety and environmental standards. Ambassador Samarasinghe welcomed the collaboration, noting it could boost local production, attract foreign investment, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s role in the international critical minerals market.

Senior officials, including Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Maduka Wickramarachchi, Minister of Commerce Mr. Nalinda Wijerathne, and Defence Adviser Commodore Dumindu Abeywickrama, joined the discussion, signaling strong government support for strategic partnerships in the sector.

This visit underscores growing international confidence in Sri Lanka’s graphite resources and highlights opportunities for the country to expand its footprint in high-demand global industries.
