He made these remarks while addressing the special religious programme, “Iftar Evening of Coexistence,” organised by the Kolonnawa Municipal Council on February 25, 2025.
The Iftar event, symbolising the breaking of the Ramadan fast, was held under the patronage of religious leaders representing Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. It was attended by a large gathering of devotees and distinguished guests, with participation from both Muslim and non-Muslim communities.
Addressing those present, the Deputy Minister stated that during the past one and a half years, the government had worked to foster unity and equality among all communities without allowing space for racism or religious extremism. He urged the public to commit themselves to building a prosperous and harmonious nation for future generations, grounded in religion, culture, coexistence, love and compassion.
Among those present were Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Munir Mulafar, Mayor of Kolonnawa W. M. Dhammika Wijemuni, Deputy Mayor K. D. S. Saman Seneviratne, and several religious leaders, including Venerable Pothewela Vinitha Thero, Venerable Kavidhaja Thero, representatives of the Catholic and Hindu clergy, and other community representatives.
