Association Vice President Nandana Udayakumara said the strike would begin at noon today adding that the decision was taken over what the union describes as the government’s failure to address eight outstanding trade union demands. The Energy Minister and other relevant authorities have already been formally notified of the planned action, he said.
Udayakumara cautioned that stronger measures could follow, particularly if the government proceeds with gazetting the dissolution of the CEB without honouring assurances given to employees during the restructuring process.
He further said that 24 electricity sector unions are preparing to align with the action, including the Engineers’ Association, the Technical Engineers and Officers’ Association, and the Industrial Technicians’ Association, signalling the possibility of wider industrial unrest across the sector.
