A high-level discussion on launching the “Drug Prevention – Mahaweli Youth Corps 2026” initiative was held this afternoon (25) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President and Secretary of the “A Nation United” National Steering Council.

The proposed initiative seeks to mobilise more than 600 trained young men and women from the Mahaweli Youth Corps to support the Government’s nationwide anti-narcotics campaign under the “A Nation United” programme, aimed at eradicating the drug menace.

Officials decided to further deliberate on the implementation framework at the upcoming meeting of the “A Nation United” National Steering Council.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Director General of the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka H.M.J.K. Herath, and representatives from the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, along with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, were also present at the discussion.
