The suspect was taken into custody today (24) in Hulandawa, located in the Monaragala District, authorities said.
According to police, the arrest was made during a special operation carried out by the Monaragala Police. The suspect is currently being detained for further questioning as investigators work to confirm his alleged involvement in the double homicide.
Police stated that further investigations are being conducted using facial recognition surveillance systems to determine whether the individual is in fact the second gunman responsible for the killings in Akuregoda.
Earlier, one of the two suspects believed to have carried out the shooting was arrested in the Ambalangoda area on February 21.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they continue efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
