The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism met yesterday with Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj, Head of the Shri Panch Agni Akhada, who is currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka from February 23 to 27.

Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj, a prominent spiritual leader associated with the Maha Kumbh, is leading a delegation of clergy and lay representatives during the visit.

The delegation is scheduled to tour several historically and religiously significant locations across the country, including Nuwara Eliya, Jaffna and Trincomalee, along with other key pilgrimage destinations.

During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the deep-rooted spiritual and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and India, built over centuries of shared religious heritage and civilizational links. He noted that such visits play a significant role in strengthening people-to-people connections and enhancing religious and cultural tourism between the two countries.

The Minister further observed that the visit provides an opportunity to promote Sri Lanka as a leading destination for spiritual and heritage tourism, particularly among Indian devotees, while reinforcing longstanding Indo–Sri Lankan cultural relations.
