According to the WFP’s latest Country Brief, 10,172 beneficiaries in Badulla, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya were assisted through bank transfers last month. A total of USD 222,255 was disbursed to help vulnerable households meet essential food and living expenses. The agency said steps are underway to extend assistance to other districts impacted by the cyclone.
The emergency response, which began in December 2025 with the distribution of non-food relief items and fortified food, has now transitioned to include cash and voucher-based support, enabling families to prioritise their most urgent needs.
Remote food security monitoring surveys conducted by the WFP indicate that food consumption levels have improved compared to December, when many communities were grappling with severe disruptions in the immediate aftermath of the cyclone.
