The company said the cylinders will be distributed from today (23), with plans to release 100,000 units daily.
A vessel carrying 3,900 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) arrived at the Port of Colombo yesterday, and unloading operations began the same day. Two additional gas shipments are scheduled to reach the island on the 25th and 28th.
Litro stated that an unexpected surge in demand over the past few days had disrupted supply in the local market. However, with the daily release of stocks now under way, the shortage is expected to ease gradually.
The company added that fresh orders have been placed to maintain adequate stocks, with further consignments due before the end of February.
Meanwhile, Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe recently said that increased quantities of Litro gas cylinders are expected to be released to the market from March 12.
In recent days, consumers across several parts of the country have complained of shortages of both Litro and Laughing Gas, with long queues reported in some areas. Traders claimed they had not been informed of a specific delivery date.
