However, several spells of showers are forecast in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District.
Showers or thundershowers are also likely at a few places in the Galle District, Matara District, Ratnapura District and Hambantota District after 2.00 p.m.
Misty conditions can be expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, and in the Ampara District and Hambantota districts during the early hours of the morning.
The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast
Meanwhile, the atmospheric disturbance over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a low-pressure area and is currently located to the northeast of Sri Lanka.
Under its influence, heavy showers or thundershowers and strong wind gusts of 50–60 kmph are possible in the affected sea areas. As a result, sea conditions may turn rough at times.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Batticaloa via Kankesanthurai and Trincomalee. Showers may also occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds in the sea areas around the island will be north-westerly with speeds of 20–40 kmph. The general sea state is expected to be moderate, although temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Naval and fishing communities have been requested to remain vigilant and to stay updated with future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology.
