The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has taken steps to amend appointment letters to grant pension entitlements to officers recruited into the public service on or after January 1, 2016.

The Ministry stated that its Secretary, S. Aloka Bandara, has issued a relevant circular to all Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Chief Secretaries and Heads of Departments in this regard.

Accordingly, action has been taken to revise the pension clause in the appointment letters of all public officers recruited on or after January 1, 2016.

Under the amendment, all such public officials will be entitled to pensions. The Ministry further noted that the pension clause in appointment letters issued to future recruits should also be amended in line with this decision.
