According to Watawala Police, the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Both injured persons were admitted to Watawala Regional Hospital, where officials confirmed that their conditions are stable and injuries are not life-threatening.

The incident highlights concerns over speeding on hilly roads in the region, especially during early morning hours when visibility is low. Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, adhere to speed limits, and take extra care on curves and steep stretches to prevent similar accidents.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the lorry overturning and have called on drivers to exercise vigilance while travelling on the Hatton–Colombo route.
