This marks the first time in Sri Lanka’s wildlife history that such an official medal presentation is being conducted to honor wildlife field officers. The event is scheduled to take place at the Giritale National Wildlife Training and Research Center.

During the ceremony, 30 wildlife field officers will be recognized for their years of service and educational qualifications related to the wildlife sector. Gold, silver, and bronze-plated medals are to be awarded in appreciation of their contributions.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation stated that similar medal awarding programs are expected to be conducted in the future, taking into consideration officers’ dedication, field expertise, theoretical training, operational performance, discipline, and commitment to special missions.

The initiative is expected to further boost the morale and dedication of wildlife officers who risk their lives to protect and conserve the country’s wildlife heritage.
