Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Ministry Secretary W.W.S. Mangala, Airport Assistant Operations Manager Anut Dayawansa, Director Primal, and heads of the Civil Aviation Authority accompanied the Minister during the visit.
The Minister reviewed the new arrival passenger terminal, which spans over 800 square meters, and instructed officials to accelerate the ongoing work. He also toured the operational areas of the airport to assess current facilities and identify immediate needs.
Jaffna International Airport recorded 53,443 passengers in 2025, reflecting a significant increase in traffic. The airport operates daily flights to Chennai, India, and three weekly flights to Trichy, India, with services provided by Indian airline IndiGo.
The government plans to further develop airport infrastructure to strengthen trade links, accommodate growing domestic and international tourism, and boost revenue for the national economy. Incentives such as concessional landing and parking fees for airlines and departure tax concessions for passengers have been introduced to encourage increased flight frequencies.
Additionally, initiatives are underway to expand domestic flight services and enhance tourism facilities at Jaffna International Airport, supporting economic growth and regional connectivity.
