In Moragahamula on the Padiyathalawa road in Kandy, a motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming bus while attempting to overtake another bus travelling in the same direction. The injured motorcyclist was admitted to Teldeniya Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as a 46-year-old Dutch national.
In a separate incident in the Kehelulla area of the Padiyathalawa police division, a tipper truck lost control and overturned into a canal. The 25-year-old driver, a resident of Padiyathalawa, was admitted to Padiyathalawa Hospital and later transferred to Mahaoya Hospital for further treatment. He later died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, within the port premises under the Coastal Police Division, a heavy forklift travelling from Phase 3 to Phase 2 collided with a motorcycle proceeding in the same direction. The pillion rider sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, where he later passed away. The deceased was a 40-year-old resident of Rideegama.
In Bandaragama town, a lorry travelling towards Horana along the Bandaragama–Panadura road struck a pedestrian crossing the road. The 65-year-old victim, a resident of Bandaragama, was first admitted to Bandaragama Hospital and later transferred to Panadura Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
The driver of the lorry has been arrested, and Bandaragama Police are conducting further investigations.
