A bilateral discussion between Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Lula da Silva was held on the sidelines of the AI Impact 2026 Summit in New Delhi, marking a significant step toward strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and Brazil.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in emerging technologies, trade, sustainable development, and South-South collaboration. Both leaders highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence in driving inclusive economic growth and emphasized the need for equitable access to AI technologies for developing nations.

President Dissanayake underscored Sri Lanka’s commitment to digital transformation and expressed interest in expanding partnerships with Brazil in areas such as agricultural technology, renewable energy, education, and innovation ecosystems. President Lula da Silva reaffirmed Brazil’s readiness to collaborate with Sri Lanka and other Global South partners to ensure that technological advancement contributes to social progress and reduces inequality.

The two leaders also exchanged views on multilateral cooperation, climate action, and strengthening economic engagement between their countries. They agreed to encourage closer coordination between relevant ministries and institutions to translate discussions into concrete initiatives.

The bilateral meeting reflects the shared vision of Sri Lanka and Brazil to deepen diplomatic and economic relations while leveraging global platforms such as the AI Impact 2026 Summit to foster meaningful international partnerships.
