Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and a Parliamentarian, urged the authorities to implement immediate remedial measures to ease the ongoing shortage.

As a quick solution, Rajapaksa recommended releasing gas stocks from the terminal within the Hambantota Port Economic Zone. He highlighted that although the terminal is currently used mainly for re-export, the policy should be revised to allow distribution to the local market.

Rajapaksa also criticized the previous government for failing to take timely decisions on supply management, saying that the public has been left to bear the inconvenience caused by the shortage.
