Chairman Channa Gunawardana said the shortfall was triggered by an unexpected spike in consumer demand and a two-day interruption in gas supplies on February 14, 2026.
To address the situation, the company released 284,000 domestic refill cylinders on February 17 and 18. A further 351,000 domestic refill cylinders are being distributed from today through Saturday to restore normal supply levels.
The Chairman assured the public that adequate stocks have already been ordered and stressed that there is no need for panic buying, adding that steps taken by the company would prevent any future shortage.
