Parliament passes bill to abolish MPs’ pensions with 152-vote majority

A total of 154 votes were cast, with 152 Members voting in favour and only two voting against the motion.

Meanwhile, the opposition presented an amendment to the Parliamentary Pensions (Abolition) Bill seeking to ensure that the move would not affect past entitlements. A separate vote was taken on the proposed amendment.

The amendment was defeated, with 148 votes cast against it and only four votes in favour, resulting in a majority of 144 against the proposal.

Accordingly, the Parliamentary Pensions (Abolition) Bill was passed in Parliament at its third reading without amendment.
