The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Lammy, arrived in Sri Lanka this morning (17) for a one-day official visit.

He landed at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at 9:11 a.m. on Qatar Airways flight QR-664 from Doha. Accompanying him is a delegation of seven senior officials from the UK Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.

The visiting delegation was received at the airport’s VIP lounge by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Chrishantha Abeysena, along with several other dignitaries.

During the visit, Mr. Lammy is scheduled to hold discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A key objective of the visit is to sign an agreement related to the “Charter for the Global Campaign on Children’s Care,” aimed at strengthening international cooperation on child protection and welfare.

Mr. Lammy and his delegation are expected to depart Sri Lanka later this evening, concluding the brief diplomatic engagement.
