The Department of Meteorology says a low-pressure area has developed over the central sea region of the southern Bay of Bengal, southeast of Sri Lanka

Due to this system, heavy showers or thundershowers may occur in the affected sea areas. The department also warned that sea conditions could become rough to very rough at times. The fishing and naval communities have been advised to remain vigilant and pay close attention to future forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.

However, the department further stated that there is no likelihood of this low-pressure system developing into a cyclone within the coming week.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Western Province and Sabaragamuwa Province, as well as in the districts of Galle District and Matara District tonight (16).

From tomorrow (17) onwards, an increase in rainfall is expected in the Northern Province, North Central Province, Central Province, Uva Province, and Eastern Province, according to the department.
