According to Sri Lanka Railways, train operations that had been limited to Chilaw Railway Station have now been extended to Puttalam after the completion of urgent repair work along the affected sections of the line.
The Puttalam railway line suffered extensive damage due to the cyclone, including track washouts near the Battulu Oya bridge between Chilaw and Puttalam, earth slips near Thilladiya Sub Railway Station, and multiple sections of track being washed away into the Deduru Oya near Manuwangama Sub Railway Station.
Railway authorities stated that restoration work was carried out in stages, gradually extending train services to stations including Negombo Railway Station, Kochchikade Railway Station, Nattandiya Railway Station, and Kudawa Railway Station before fully reopening the line.
With the completion of repairs, necessary arrangements have now been made to operate trains between Colombo Fort Railway Station and Puttalam with effect from today, February 16, 2026.
