Speaking to the media after appearing before the Colombo High Court, MP Rajapaksa referred to the recent killing of a lawyer allegedly by organised criminals and questioned the safety of legal professionals.
He alleged that attempts were being made to portray the murdered lawyer as having links to criminal elements, and warned that such narratives could undermine confidence in the legal system. “If members of the legal profession are being targeted, it raises serious concerns about the security of the justice system,” he said.
The SLPP National Organiser also claimed that certain recent statements by government representatives were creating unease among public service professionals, including doctors, and cautioned against what he described as intimidation.
In addition, Rajapaksa reiterated that the government, which has been in office for over a year and a half with a two-thirds parliamentary majority, should take full responsibility for governance instead of blaming previous administrations.
He said the case he appeared for was postponed to February 1.
