Showers will occur at several places in the Central and Uva provinces and in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota during the next 24 hours, according to the latest weather advisory.

Showers or thundershowers are also likely at a few locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts, during the early hours of the morning.

The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Weather Forecast for Sea Areas

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Batticaloa via Hambantota and Pottuvil.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Galle via Kalutara during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 45–50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalutara to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Sea areas off the coast extending from Kalutara to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will remain moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, and fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution.
