The Magistrate made this observation while ordering the further remand of former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake until the 18th. Ekanayake was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting an offence by approving over Rs. 1.62 billion for former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to undertake a private visit to Britain.
During proceedings, Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General’s Department, informed court that certain statements made to the media outside the court premises had become problematic.
In response, the Magistrate stressed that if statements had been made to the media from the prison bus, immediate appropriate steps should be taken in that regard.
The case is scheduled to be taken up again on the 18th.
