He made these remarks while addressing the media at the headquarters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna on Nelum Mawatha.
Rajapaksa alleged that certain groups received foreign funds during the struggle and later benefited personally. He claimed that some individuals who were active in the protests had since bought vehicles and houses or migrated abroad.
According to him, while one group gained political power, positions, and wealth, another group of young people who took part in the struggle lost their lives.
He said it was important to investigate how foreign funds were received and used, and who benefited from them.
Rajapaksa also stated that his party would continue to speak for the people and oppose what he described as government repression when it fails to deliver on public promises.
Referring to the killing of MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala, he said the court had acted independently and justice had been served, while criticizing attempts on social media to justify the incident.
