The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested a former Deputy Commissioner of the Car Transfer Division of the Department of Motor Transport over allegations of approving an illegal vehicle transfer.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested a former Deputy Commissioner of the Car Transfer Division of the Department of Motor Transport over allegations of approving an illegal vehicle transfer.

The suspect was taken into custody yesterday (12) in connection with an investigation launched following information received by the Commission. At the time of her arrest, she was serving at the Trade and Investment Policy Department under the Ministry of Finance.

According to the Commission, she is accused of granting approval on February 17, 2017, for the unlawful transfer of a motor vehicle bearing registration number GZ–6889 without a legal primary residence.

The suspect was subsequently produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court and was released on bail by court order.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Commission.
