The arrests followed 12 complaints received by the Bureau, alleging that a woman had operated a fraudulent foreign employment agency named “Rainbow Nexus” without a valid licence from the SLFEB. According to investigators, the suspect had collected large sums of money by falsely promising foreign jobs to residents from various parts of the country.
Despite several attempts over more than a year, officers were unable to arrest the main suspect as she had been evading investigators. Acting on new information that she was staying in the Seeduwa area, the Bureau’s Special Investigation Unit launched an operation and arrested her earlier today. Her husband, who is alleged to have assisted in the fraudulent activities, was also taken into custody at the same location.
During the raid, officers seized around 200 foreign employment contracts, letters referring applicants to medical centres, approximately 300 X-ray reports, and a large number of promotional leaflets.
Further investigations revealed that the illegal operation had been conducted from a rented house in Seeduwa. Authorities estimate that the total amount defrauded through the racket amounts to approximately Rs. 180 million.
The two suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (February 11, 2026).
The raid was carried out under the supervision of Chief Inspector Ariyasinghe, Officer-in-Charge of the Special Investigation Unit, with the participation of Bureau Inspector T.B. De Alwis, Police Sergeant Dissanayake, Law Enforcement Officer Amitha Kumari, and Srinika Karunaratne.
