Three students were injured after a wall collapsed at a school in Borella during ongoing renovation work.

According to reports, a backhoe operating at the site struck the wall, causing it to fall. The students, all 16 years old and playing nearby at the time, were trapped under the debris. They were promptly rescued and admitted to Colombo National Hospital for treatment. One student remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit, police confirmed.

The 48-year-old backhoe operator involved in the incident has been arrested. Borella Police are conducting further investigations. The backhoe reportedly belongs to the Colombo Municipal Council’s work unit.
