The NCSOC, established by Sri Lanka CERT under the Ministry of Digital Economy, represents a major step in strengthening the nation’s cyber security framework. The centre is designed to provide real-time threat monitoring, coordinated incident response, and proactive cyber defence across key government infrastructure.
The meeting, led by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eng. Eranga Weeraratna and Secretary Mr. Waruna Sri Dhanapala, highlighted that cyber security is no longer just a technical concern but a matter of national importance affecting public trust, economic stability, and national security. Sri Lanka CERT officials demonstrated NCSOC capabilities, including the newly established Malware Analysis and Threat Hunting (MATH) Lab.
Participants stressed the importance of cyber security awareness and structured digital training programmes for public sector officials as Sri Lanka advances its digital economy. The NCSOC will help safeguard government digital systems from ransomware, data breaches, and website defacements while providing early warning systems, real-time monitoring, and coordinated national-level incident response.
Representatives from the Pensions Department, Prime Minister’s Office, and ICTA shared experiences of connecting their institutions to the NCSOC, while senior officials from Sri Lanka CERT presented on operational and technological capabilities.
