Fake emails claiming to be CID Director circulate

Police have warned the public about a fraudulent email currently being circulated under the name of the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Shani Abeysekara.

According to the CID, the email falsely claims to have been issued by the Director. However, the department has officially confirmed that the message was neither sent nor authorized by the CID.

The fraudulent emails have reportedly been sent from the addresses [email protected] and [email protected].

Investigations revealed that the emails may have been distributed with the intention of misleading the public, committing financial fraud, or unlawfully obtaining personal information.

The CID has launched an investigation to identify the individuals or groups responsible for sending the deceptive messages and to take appropriate legal action against them.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and to refrain from sharing any personal or confidential information in response to emails received from the above-mentioned addresses.
