The Sri Jayewardenepura Zonal Resource Center for Children with Special Needs, newly established at the site of the former Gangodawila Model Primary School in Wijerama, was officially opened this morning.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Mass Media Dr. Kaushalya Ariyaratne and Member of Parliament Devananda Suraweera. Member of Parliament Asitha Niroshana and Sri Jayewardenepura Zonal Director of Education Mrs. I. Samanmali Dinamuni were also present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Director of Special Education for the Sri Jayewardenepura Region, Mr. Sarath Adhikari, expressed concern over the challenges faced in implementing newly proposed education reforms, particularly in the area of special education.
Zonal Director of Education Mrs. I. Samanmali Dinamuni also shared her views, highlighting the importance of strengthening facilities and resources dedicated to children with special needs.
The newly opened resource center is expected to play a key role in enhancing educational support services for children with special needs within the Sri Jayewardenepura education zone.
