Showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva, Eastern and North-central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Badulla and Polonnaruwa districts.
The Northern Province is expected to experience several spells of showers throughout the day.
Elsewhere in the island, showers or thundershowers are forecast to develop at several places after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy falls above 50 mm possible in some areas.
Misty conditions can be expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Authorities have urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Weather Forecast for Sea Areas
In the sea areas surrounding the island, showers may occur at several places off the coast from Hambantota to Kankasanthurai via Pottuvil and Trincomalee. Showers or thundershowers are also likely at several locations in other sea areas during the evening or night.
Winds will be north-easterly at speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 45–50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Sea conditions will be fairly rough at times in the waters off Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Other sea areas around the island will be moderate.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are expected during thundershowers.
Fishermen and naval operators are advised to remain vigilant while venturing into the sea.
