Sri Lanka will mark International Women’s Day 2026 on March 8, in line with the global theme announced by the United Nations: “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”

The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has planned the national celebration in Matara, to be held at the Rabindranath Tagore Hall of the University of Ruhuna and the Matara Beach Park.

The celebration aims to affirm the social, political, and economic rights of women and to encourage their active participation in the country’s development. Organizing the event outside Colombo is expected to create new market opportunities for rural women entrepreneurs, raise awareness on preventing violence against women, and recognize women who have made outstanding contributions to society.

Details regarding the national theme, official logo, and program schedule will be announced in due course.
