A group of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs filed a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIC) today (11), alleging that the Speaker’s personal secretary is acting in a manner that obstructs an ongoing investigation.
The complaint claims that the Speaker’s personal secretary instructed the Secretary General of Parliament to submit a report to the Speaker regarding matters mentioned in an earlier complaint filed with the CIC.
Chaminda Kularatne, who is currently under suspension, had filed the initial complaint with the CIC on the second day, accusing Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne of corruption. Kularatne’s complaint included allegations that the Speaker misused an official vehicle beyond entitlement, received two fuel allowances illegally, and used two official residences.
