Four suspects, including a woman, have been arrested by the Kalutara District Crime Division in connection with the attempted murder of Bandula Prasanna, a candidate who contested the last local government election for the Kalutara Municipal Council representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

The incident took place in Nagoda. Police said a 24-year-old suspect from Nagoda was initially arrested in Balangoda yesterday in connection with the attempted murder. Following further investigations, three additional suspects were taken into custody.

According to police, the first suspect arrested is also allegedly involved in two other serious crimes. He is accused of attempting to shoot and kill a prison inmate at the Nagoda Hospital on January 31 last year and of fatally shooting a hotel owner in Dehiwala on January 9 last year.

The other suspects arrested include two residents of Kalutara, aged 23 and 24, and a 23-year-old female suspect from Bolossagama, police said.

The Kalutara District Crime Division is continuing further investigations into the incident.
