Zonal education director and teacher advisor arrested over bribery

A Zonal Education Director and a teacher advisor attached to the Dehiattakandiya Zonal Education Office have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by a resident of the Dehiattakandiya area. According to the complaint, the suspects had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 in exchange for reinstating the complainant to service after he had left his post and for extending his attachment to the Dehiattakandiya Zonal Education Office through the Ministry of Education.

Officers of CIABOC arrested the two suspects this afternoon at the Dehiattakandiya Zonal Education Office while they were allegedly demanding and receiving the said bribe.

The arrested individuals are due to be produced before the Dehiattakandiya Magistrate.
