Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa said all necessary measures have been put in place following days of uncertainty caused by regional tensions. He emphasized that Sri Lanka’s government intervened decisively to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of one of world cricket’s biggest fixtures, calling on the public to fully cooperate with security forces.
A special traffic and crowd management plan has also been prepared by the Police to accommodate the large turnout expected for the match. Minister Jayatissa noted that the breakthrough was achieved through the combined efforts of the ICC, Sri Lanka Cricket, diplomatic intermediaries, and direct engagement by Sri Lanka’s President, including a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
Pakistan has formally expressed satisfaction with Sri Lanka’s mediation. “We are genuinely pleased that this match can take place here,” the Minister said, highlighting cricket’s role in promoting regional friendship and cooperation
