The Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen Sri Lanka’s cyber security framework by initiating the implementation of a Cabinet decision to connect critical government institutions to the National Cyber Security Operations Centre (NCSOC).

A special discussion on the initiative was held on February 10, 2026, at the Old Parliament Building in Colombo, bringing together key stakeholders from the digital governance and cyber security sectors. The programme is being coordinated by Sri Lanka CERT in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy, with the objective of enhancing national preparedness against cyber threats.

Officials emphasised that cyber security has become a matter of national importance, with direct implications for national security, economic stability and public confidence in state services. The proposed connectivity to the NCSOC is expected to enable real-time monitoring, early threat detection and coordinated responses to cyber incidents affecting essential government services.

The first phase of the initiative will prioritise government institutions operating critical information infrastructure, while the remaining institutions are scheduled to be connected by the end of this year, following Cabinet-level policy approval. Awareness and training programmes on digital security for public sector officials are also expected to be strengthened as part of the overall effort.

The move is seen as a key component of Sri Lanka’s transition towards a digital economy, ensuring resilience and continuity of public services in the face of increasing cyber threats.
