The government is set to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Maldives. The proposal, submitted by the President in his capacity as Minister of Defence, seeks to renew a partnership that was first established in 2012 and last renewed in 2018.

Following the expiration of the previous agreement in 2023, both parties have agreed on a new pact to facilitate training programs, staff exchanges, joint research, academic publications, as well as cultural and sports exchange programs.

The renewed MoU aims to strengthen defence cooperation and promote academic and professional collaboration between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
