Electricity sector trade unions have warned they will launch immediate trade union action without prior notice if the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is gazetted without addressing their demands.
According to union sources, a letter signed by representatives of 24 CEB trade unions has been sent to the Minister of Electricity and Energy, outlining their position. The unions had earlier submitted a letter on January 12 containing eight demands aimed at protecting the rights of CEB employees.
However, as no positive response has been received so far, the trade unions sent another letter yesterday (09), once again drawing the Minister’s attention to their unresolved demands.
The unions state that the continued failure to provide acceptable solutions has left employees with no alternative but to resort to trade union action to secure their rights.
The letter further notes that 24 trade unions, including the CEB Engineers’ Association, have decided to engage in strict trade union action without further notice if the liquidation of the Ceylon Electricity Board is announced through a Gazette notification without first fulfilling their demands.
