The veneration of the sacred relics at the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple is scheduled to conclude at 6.00 a.m. tomorrow (11), the Department of Government Information announced.
Director General of Government Information, H.S.K.J. Bandara, has requested devotees wishing to take part in the veneration to join the queues before 10.00 p.m. today (10), as arrangements will be made to facilitate worshippers already in line.
The revered “Devnimori” Sri Sarvagna Relic, brought to Sri Lanka with the full support of the Government of India in line with the country’s 78th Independence Day celebrations, has been open for public veneration at the Gangarama Temple since February 5.
The sacred relics were brought to Sri Lanka yesterday aboard a special Indian aircraft and were first received at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake. Following religious observances accompanied by the chanting of Seth Pirith, the relics were taken in a special procession to the Gangarama Temple in Hunupitiya, Colombo.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake paid the first floral tribute to the “Devnimori” Sri Sacred Relics upon their arrival at the temple.
